Welcome to The Phoenix Hotel

The Phoenix Hotel a motor lodge built in 1956 has been popular with the entertainment industry and leisure travelers looking for a unique experience for over 20 years. Each of the 44 guestrooms faces a lush landscaped courtyard which features a landmark heated pool and artwork by local artists. The spacious guestrooms are colorfully furnished with island-inspired decor and whimsical touches like bamboo xylophones. Complimentary Wireless Internet access is offered in all areas of the hotel including guestrooms lobby and the courtyard. The onsite restaurant Bambuddha Lounge serves Southeast Asian cuisine Tuesday to Saturday nights and has an active bar scene and DJs on the weekends. Because of the outdoor courtyard area and popular lounge the hotel can sometimes be noisy on weekend nights though an effort is made to keep noise and activity down. This funky urban retreat is an unexpected oasis in an otherwise gritty party of town. Located on the edge of the transitional Tenderloin district but also lust blocks from Asian Art Museum and City Hall. The Federal Government building and Courthouse are also within easy walking distance making The Phoenix a great choice for government travelers. The Phoenix has a strong reputation with the entertainment industry and years of experience working with bands. Some of the special services available for bands are bus parking shore power customized rooming lists key packets maps to local venues. Our hotel is a 100 percent smoke free property. ...read more

I loved the staff! The young man at the front desk was AMAZING! So sweet and so helpful!

The hotel was amazing. The staff was so great, they helped me find my way around, and even called up to my room to make sure I was OK since I was staying alone. I can not express how much I loved this place. It was like a little Utopia, I loved it. ...read more

The staff were wonderful and the rooms were attractive.

Staff was wonderful, but the nightlife on a Saturday night is ridiculous.

Very knowledgeable and friendly staff; willing to make my stay and visit to San Francisco more enjoyable.
In a sketchy area of the Civic Center where a lot of vagrants were around. Not on property, but near it.

Cute hotel, but for the young and hip who want to be near a bus line away from any district in San Fran. Paper-thin walls, but my bed was very comfy enough for a somewhat restful sleep. The heated pool was a bit small, but the customer service from the staff was amazing and made my stay so much more enjoyable. ...read more

Fun, party atmosphere.
Loud at times & difficult to sleep.

Loved everything - great decor, accommodating staff, fun atmosphere. Perfect for young, party crowd - not so much if you want a peaceful sleep - fine with me. Nice continental breakfast. Great Courtyard - small & intimate. Neighborhood is a little shady but not enough to keep me from returning. ...read more

The pool area is very nice, very casual, comfortable feel. Central, convenient location, area not as bad as it looks. You can walk anywhere from here.
I was disappointed that the bar/restaurant was closed for part of our stay.

This is a great hotel, the staff was very accommodating. The pool area is very cute. The rooms are large and the bar next door is nice. Very comfortable, casual feel here. I was a little disappointed that there were no parties at the pool area and that people complained about a group of guys talking. I thought this was a party hotel! But this is the only place I would stay in SFO. Free parking, reasonable, comfortable, and funky. The neighborhood is not bad; we walked around day and night, no problems. ...read more

Clean, hip, fine rooms. Certainly not luxurious, but still pretty nice.
Location is fairly sketchy, but really not that bad.

Nice hotel if you are under 40, otherwise you might want to look somewhere else. Don't expect any amazing luxuries, but it was clean, quiet, and all the art was pretty cool. Location is kind of sketchy, but really, probably not the best place for a lone female to be walking around, but it's close to stuff, and if you've ever lived in a city before you can handle this area. ...read more

Great comp breakfast, free parking, kitsch atmosphere, and friendly employees.
Surrounding area is hideous with bums, druggies, winos, and an overpowering urine smell!

Love the hotel. Reasonable rate includes free parking and excellent continental breakfast. Nice comfortable Bohemian kitschy atmosphere, and friendly employees. Downside is the surrounding Tenderloin district, including 6 block walk to the cable car line through winos, bums, etc., including overpowering urine smell. ...read more

Staff and ambience were excellent with very hip decor.
Ac was open windows and a fan, bit noisy, shower needed caulk.

Really hipster cool and fun, but not for business travel. Staff was really, really nice. Pool and patio is fabulous, bar and restaurant looked great, but for fun, not business. Chocolate pop tarts in the pastry offerings at continental breakfast with great coffee. No ac forced you to open windows, which let in the patio noise and resulted in reaching for the ear plugs. Shower had a real bad caulk job. Neighborhood is sketchy, but they have a parking lot. Definitely a fun place and they are trying to improve the hood so I support their efforts - just don't plan to sleep well or get work done here. ...read more

Location was ok, and it had a parking area for your vehicle.
There is a night club connected to the hotel and the LOUD music does not shut off till after 1 am.

It was a learning experience for me. I will never stay here again. Staff was great, but the place was way to noisy for me. I know that it's San Francisco but the walls vibrating till 1 am.
